I know better then to wait for designer fabric to go on sale. It may but it won't ever be the focal pieces that I fell in love with. Usually the focal prints are sold out fast. I save money to buy the focus fabric by buying basic solids, prints, and neutrals on clearance. I will buy a layer cake or a jelly roll of the new fabric lines if available.

i don't shop enough enough to know what's new. when i am ready to make something, i go in search of fabric.

i don't watch designers, mills, trends...i am a basement sewing room dwelling one project at a time kind of quilter.

i think it probably keeps me in groceries

I wait for sales. I figure if it sells out before I can get it, something I like better will come along anyway. The exception is if I need something specifically for a project, like for backing or binding or something.

This pretty much describes me as well. I buy for projects only. Don't buy coordinated lines even then most of the time. I really don't have room for a 'stash' and am also afraid my tastes/likes will change over time and then what will I do with it??? Not a 'scrappy' quilter either.

Since I have spent 30+ years building a stash, and am now on a limited budget, I mostly use my stash, and buy if I need to for a border or an extra fabric or two. I prefer to buy when on sale, but once in awhile, buy when I NEED it.

i always purchase on sale, for my fabrics and most other consumer goods.

I work at an LQS and get the employee discount...so I buy what I want, when I want. However, I don't really buy that much because I don't have much time to sew at home. I buy only what I really love. Most of the time, it's enough that I get to fondle it all every day at work.

I usually just try to buy fabrics that will go with the fabrics I already have. I refuse to pay high prices for fabrics.
I give away most of my quilts and they usually get washed to death.

There is almost always a sale somewhere, so when something catches my eye I will wait until I either have stumbled over the perfect pattern for it, or it is on sale - preferably both. I have some coordinated fabrics that just sit there because I don't know what I want to do with them - don't like that. When I do buy just because of a sale, it's solids and blenders for stash.
