Fabric color "value" question for scrappy quilting
#11
I do mostly scrap quilting and I separate by colors. Place looks a mess but all those bins make me happy. I also use red or green see thru plastic as those will really let you see whats light and what's dark. I'll sent PM to you as well.

Thanks ladies! Ube quilting I looked at your albums. You have some beautiful scrappy quilts in them!
I'm going shopping today for some darks. I think that's what I'm lacking to make my mediums pop.

Went shopping at JoAnns yesterday, taking advantage of their 50% off sale on Keepsake Calicos. Here's my haul. All darks except the paisley in the foreground (that I just loved and had to have). Now maybe I'll have an easier time of establishing contrast. Thanks everyone!

Since the vast majority of my scraps fall into the medium and dark categories, I usually buy white fabric as a contrast when I make scrappy quilts. That said, there are lots of shades of white available! Some are cool, bright white (e.g. Moda Bella Bleached White 98) which I use when I'm using lots of medium-to-light colors and need high contrast. Some are warmer (e.g. Kona Snow) and will soften the look when contrast has already been established.
