YEY!!!!! correct! It has always been an issue with me. It used to drive me crazy, and I only an English major. 'Dry Goods' also fit into this subject. However, ladies remember the Dictonary continues to grow daily.

It is an age thing. I never heard it called fabric before I was an adult. Probably regional too.

I wonder if it started the same way, on one coast you may call it pop, on the other coast soda, and in a lot of places they just call it pepsi, or what ever it is you want.
    Potatoe - Potato
    Tomatoe - Tomato
    Roof - Ruf
    Aunt - Ant
    All the same to me.

I USED to call it material - now call it fabric. I don't know why!

It's our age, I guess. It all was material when I was a young whippersnapper. Fabric does sound more elegant. The 30s fabric does look like material.

Same reason the words buy and bought are becoming obsolete in favor of purchase and purchased and why my friends from north of the Mason Dixon line insist that a grocery sack is most certainly not a sack, but a bag.

Note that I did not give a reason...just said it was the same reason, whatever it is.
