Finding matching fabric
#1
Does anyone know of a fabric company that will try to match fabric from a scrap that is sent to them? I heard of one years ago that would do this but I cannot remember which company it was. I decided to change how I was putting a border on a quilt and do not have enough of the fabric to finish it. I need to match a solid maroon/garnet color that I started using in the sashing of blocks in the body of the quilt and blocks in the border. I can’t find anything close in my LQSs. Thank you for suggestions.

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question about a fabric company that matches fabric.
I do have a few suggestions for you to consider:
You can contact Spoonflower to see if they would be able to make fabric to match your color from a scrap. I know they make custom fabrics.
Don't forget that you can use the back side (wrong side) of some fabrics to see if the color matches.
Lastly, I have a friend that dyes fabric when she can't find what she wants in the store. She has gotten spot on to matching one fabric she ran out of. Best of luck to you!

can't imagine a company that would have the resources to do that and then there is the dye lots thing.
Many groups now ban posting images of wanted fabrics because there are so many of them I guess, but as a result there is of course a group on facebook
without the selvedge innformation it would be much more difficult

I'm with Kalama, I can't imagine manufacturers having the resources for that. Quilt shops, on the other hand, are a whole different story. I can't think of a single quilt shop that I've been in that wouldn't do that for a customer.

I would ask at the LQS if they have a color card for Moda or another solid line. You might be able to get close if you know the color number of a close fabric. Dye lots change. I'm guessing they could only order bolts but, you might be able to find yardage online.
