Finishing one top before starting another?
#21
I tend to start one and finish it (I've only been quilting since August) until recently. I had started a quilt top and finished the top only to find out I didn't have enough batting and I wanted to hand quilt it. The only problem was, I've never hand quilted anything before. So I made a smaller quilt that would fit with the piece of batting I have and practiced on that one. So, still don't have batting and the sewing machine needle has broken so now I'm hand piecing a quilt. That and I'm quilting one for my mom. So I currently have 3 going unless you count the circle jean quilt I started cutting pieces for and realized I didn't have enough so stuffed it in a bag knowing I'd like to finish it one day.
But jump around if you want! You could always make a sampler like others are suggesting, or if the colors work together, you could do one like this one

then you don't have to worry about sashing, just make sure they're all the same size

I try not to get too many going at the same time because I KNOW then I'll have trouble getting them finished - ever. So I do have one or two small projects that I play with between big projects, but I usually finish one quilt before I start another.

I work on one project at a time, but it's really hard to control myself & not start any new ones at the same time. I have a lot of projects to do before Christmas & would really like to see progress because I'm not a fast quilter, but DH doesn't like it when I work on more than one at a time. So...I try to behave myself. LOL! This way he'll encourage me to get more fabric from time to time. (Method to my madness) :-)

I think I'm one of the few who can not start another until the first is finished. Don't know why, but I just can't do it. I only get so far as to cut a few pieces of the fabrics I'm gonna use and make one, maybe two blocks, just to see how it's gonna look. And, I don't even to that until I'm just about done with the quilting and about ready to bind.

Never! I currently have 7 quilts that I am working on. They are not UFO's ( I have plenty of those!!) I need labels for all, which I do on my embroidery machine, and I need to hand sew the bindings on 4 of them.
