I had the same problem. I had to remake the band where I was trying to snap the grommets in. It needs to be a light fusible interfacing between the two layers of fabric. After I cut the old band off and replaced it with new fabric and new lightweight fusible interfacing, the grommets went in beautifully. I had to be careful when cutting the hole. It was a very trying experience for me; however, after the handbag was remade, I was so proud of it and I get lots of compliments.

Oh, Pat! "TRYING" is not the word for it! But, I will keep on trying...

When I finally get this resolved, I will certainly let you all know what I ended up doing! Thanks to everyone for your sweet, caring responses!

I had the same problem and ended up doing a zig-zag by machine around the hole (they were smaller holes for cording). The only grommets that I've seen that look neat are the snap together kind that are quite large. They require no tools (saw them in LQS.

Hi, Pat! Yes, these are 1 9/16" inside diameter, plastic, snap-together grommets. The strap of the bag threads though them - so they are large. I think I'll have to continue my quest tomorrow. You know how it is when you get so frustrated, you can't think straight. But it is SO wonderful that so many are right there to try to help - or offer support! Thanks!

I LOVE your bag!!! But you have little grommets... I went to Home Depot's website and they only have small ones. The same with Lowes. The one's I have are 1 9/16" inside diameter.
I hope - when this thing is finally finished - it comes out as beautiful as yours!

Harbor Freight has grommets! I was there a couple of days ago to get some rotary blades and saw them. I believe they carry them for use on tarps but I have used them on the straps on my weaving loom. Good luck.

We had this discussion at my local quilt guild. One of the members said she superglued them together.

Are you making the Grids & Grommets bag?
I just made about 10 of them. I had to put Decor Bond on both interiors of the purse band. This helped stabilize it for the grommets. There was another lady in our guild that was working on these purses as well. She even put a little hot glue (or was it super glue?) in between the grommet sides to keep them stuck together.

ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!
I can't thank all of you enough for your caring suggestions for "Grrrrrrrrrommet" problems! I ended up using super glue - I used two pieces of wood and a C-clamp to hold them together until the glue dried! It became quite a project. But THAT was successful, so I forged ahead and made a second bag for my son's girlfriend - 16 grommets in all! CONQUERED, with a little help and encouragement from my friends! Thanks again!!

Oh! I like this idea - will now search for Sign shops!
I found Seattle Fabrics - but it looks like I would need to be making sails for a sailboat... couldn't really find the right size - (I've already cut the holes :( ) On the same Google search page was "Grommet World" - who would have known? - so I'm still searching there, too. But how thick is 3/32 of fabric??? :?
OY!
I would bring them back to your LQS - see if they can tell you why they aren't working.
Good luck
