I have a Husquvarna Viking and tried using Coats and Clark since we live 70 miles from a large town but my machine did not like it, had a problems. So ordered Gutermann online. Have never had a problem with it. It appears Coats and Clark has a coating on it that clogs up the works but Gutermann does not have.

I bought the Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.0 machine and have so many problems with Guttermann thread. When I took my machine in for the umpteenth time over threading problems the dealer told me it was the thread and they don't recomend Guttermann. I buy all my Guttermann from JoAnns. Like many of you I've ended up running it off on bobbins when it doesn't seem to work on top.

I remember my dealer told me if I was going to use Gutterman, to make sure it's the one made in Germany and NOT Mexico. He said there is a big difference in quality. I forgot to mention this in my last post. I've never had to search for it though because my Joann's only stocks the German one.

How do you know it's the ones from Germany? What stores sell the ones from Mexico?
Look on the bottom of the spool. It says either Mexico or Germany. I don't know which stores stock the "Mexico" ones because I only buy mine when they are 40% off, or I have a coupon, at Joann's and as I said, they are from Germany. Someone, I think on this board, said it's ridiculous because the maker does the same quality of work, whether in Germany or Mexico. And he/she might be right, I don't know that either. But as long as it's so easy for me to get the Germany ones, I just go with them.

I'm beginning to think that the dealers all have their own agenda when they hand out this kind of advice so assertively. They often contradict each other, too.

All the Gutterman I have is from Joannes too. I don't know about the Mexico label though. I think all of them say made in Germany. I think legally a manufacturer can label the product if a certain percentage is made in the country. I'd like to hear if anyone has a Gutterman thread labeled made in Mexico.

I'd also love to see a photo of one of these Mexican made spools too.

I HAVE actually seen Mexico on a spool of Gutermann's at a shop, but I can't remember where or when. I remember saying to myself, "Hmmm, here's that Mexican Gutermann's." :)

My Elna loves Gutermann for quilting. Other threads break. I sometimes use it for piecing and never have a problem with it there either.
