sculpy clay is so much fun, and you just proved the ideas are endless.
it's a 'why didn't I think of it moment'
please show us your thimble.

I can't sew anything without a thimble. I do a lot of hand quilting and I especially like the one with the indentation so the needle doesn't "slip off" Trouble is, I get a ridge on my finger from the top of the thimble pressing against my finger when I hand quilt for a long period of time. I've brought the gel thimbles. They have the indentation also but they didn't work well, I think my finger nail was the cause. I finally cut the "gel" part off of the metal tip and slipped it into a larger metal thimble and by golly it worked!

I made a thimble for myself years ago, but don't remember what it was. I know it's white in color, and was some kind of clay. I think it may have just hardened itself, but I'm not sure. I just don't remember baking it. It may have been fingernail acrylic. It probably was, because I think it also had silver sparkles in it, lol! I made dimples in it and everything, I believe while it hardened on my finger.

I use leather thimbles. have taken an old leather purse to make them. the only draw back is they do eventually wear out.

Great idea I have tried many different thimbles and wound up taping a dime on the tip of my finger when doing a lot of handwork

Do you have instructions for making your leather thimbles? I would be interested in giving it a try. Thank you.

I also use leather thimbles, they are the most comfortable and mold to the shape of my finger.

I'm fascinated by the clay thimbles. Does Sculpey HAVE to be baked, or can it air-harden? I think that is a great idea, and you can even decorate it if you want!
