    are hearts feminine?

I have been quilting my delectable mountain quilt. I just did cross hatch in the body part of the quilt. I wanted to do something different for the borders. I was thinking maybe loopy hearts, but then I was concerned. Are hearts feminine? I would like to keep this sort of gender neutral - so would hearts be girly?

I think they are on the feminine side. Unless they have daggers through them, of course.

    Every one has a heart.

If you are worried about it, put a few hearts in randomly along with whatever other design you come up with for the borders. Either way will be great.
A quilt is like a good life. It's full of mistakes, but, in the end, it looks pretty good.

All the manly quilts I have made for my hubby have either hearts in the quilting stitches or applique hearts somewhere in the fabric placement. They don't take away from the manliness of the quilt and he actually looks for the little hearts and loves them. I say go for it!

I've always considered hearts to be girly girl. I would go with a entwined vine instead of hearts. There are many stencils out there to pick from. If you want a heart some where on the quilt, use it on the label.

Sometimes I question this! I agree that they are kind of girly.

    Leaves would be another option.

I tend to think of hearts as being "girly", but it would really depend on who the quilt was for. I like the idea of doing something like pine trees though (I love pine trees )

If Delectable Mountains is the pattern, it seems that the pine tree or other idea of vines...something from nature...would be more appropriate. But that's just me.

Men have hearts too! I think that quilting a loopy heart in the borders will be a wonderful addition to any quilt whether it is pink bunnies or charging moose!

I'm one who thinks of hearts as feminine, but maybe a vine, with heart shaped leaves would work.

I would agree that pink heart fabric is feminine, but ones quilted in the border wouldn't be to me. I say go for it.

I would not put hearts in a quilt for an adult man or older teen boy... not even for my husband. The guys are the ones who perceive it as girly, regardless of what we might think. I would only use hearts on a baby boy's quilt, no older.

Yes, everyone has a heart, but it doesn't look like this:

I tend to change the heart shape just a little bit and make more of a leaf and vine motif. But the leaves are actually just modified hearts... like ivy.

Yes, to me they are. ANd to my son born on Valentine's Day who could do without, as he says, "all the girly pink hearts and flowers" on his birthday. LOL

you guys are funny! I agree that leaves and vines go with the delectable mountains pattern. But this is my second one and I used leaves on the first quilt. I was just trying to think of something different
