Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D
You are awesome to make these (((HUGS)))
Maybe make some with a cotton batting and some without for those who aren't as cold, but like to cover up a little?

What a lovely and generous idea. Wrapping those people in a hug!! Someone else mentioned fleece so I will tell you that I have made around 50 of these and just backed them with fleece, no batting. They are soft, cuddly and hugable. Another whole subject is long arm quilting with fleece.
So the big question would be, how do you plan to quilt these? That answer would depend on what batting and backing to use.

I agree with the size suggestions above. For quilting, I would suggest not tieing them because some the the folks at mom's nursing home "pick" at things. If there is anything loose they will pick at it until it comes apart. Also, don't use invisable thread. Remember that these quilts will probably be washed a lot.
