A friend of mine had the same problem recently. She used vodka to get the odor out. She hung the pieces over a clothes drying rack (like the wooden ones you find at wal-mart). She then placed the rack in a small bathroom with a small bowl of vodka and left them for at least 24 hours. It took several weeks but it worked. Some pieces had to be treated multiple times. Be sure to buy unflavored vodka and get the cheap stuff.
I used this method several years back after purchasing an old bedroom suite at auction. It was musty and smoky smelling. I placed a small dish in each drawer and closed the bedroom door.
