I just bought one of the Accucut cutting machines. In practice I cut some 2" squares. So when I need a break or have a block I sew a few together. One day I will have enough for a small quilt and it helps motivate me to do other things which I am getting stressed out over.

I'm in a slump right now and haven't worked on anything in probably a month either. I think it is the last two quilts have been very intense, small and exact piecing. It's just burned me out. I do WANT to work on something but I DON'T want a bunch of UFOs getting started up.
Oh wait... I did do a little bit of work yesterday on a third quilt, got half the center circle completed. But that's it.

I think we all have periods where we are in a funk from being sick, being over extended, the winter weather, etc. Sometimes we need to accept that it is okay for us to just "do nothing" for a day or two. I was in a "block" for two years while I was completing my masters program. After I finished in October I seemed to collect lots of ideas yet couldn't get started. My granddaughter (age 6) helped me get back in the groove over Christmas by asking me to help her make her quilt top.

have felt same here - no motivation to start, finish or even work on anything. I blame it on the dreary weather that just makes me lazy and unmotivated - not enuf sun lately to give me the energy to do anything!

I've not had the problem yet. However, why not look up some quilt challenges from other guilds or AQS past shows etc and set yourself the goal of making that challenge? It will get you out of your comfort zone, help you to think of new ideas and even if you don't end up with what you started out to do, it is the challenge along the way that could help you discover a new technique or style for you to use. Even if you tried to represent a poem or a quotation as your inspiration,it would be a start.

Start organiziing your quilting/sewing things, you know tidy up the thread, straighten out this or that, fold or refold some fabric, get back to touching your sewing stuff. Before you know it you'll get a spark back and want to turn on the machine, maybe to clean out the bobbin area. Then... maybe run a scrap piece of fabric through just to run the machine. This all might perk you up to get back into the groove of sewing. This works for me a lot of the time!

I'm in that block right now. For me I think it's a lack of time to take on a big project, eventhough I have one on the planning wall and one pieced but not sashed. But I have done a few small things, my new projects are the mug rugs that the girls are all talking about. They are quick and easy and are using up my scraps, and it makes me feel that I'm not totally neglecting my favorite room.
