Yes this! I tend to look at it that way too. Maybe add a green as thin sashing or so to tie it all together. I like the sampler idea and the basket idea since you said you were a traditionalist.

It seems you have three whites, three yellows and two reds. How about adding a solid red? You could make a log cabin and use the red as the hearth. If not, I'd still add another solid red.

I would add two solid colors - a red and a green and make a Trip Around the World using 10 fabrics Bonnie Hunt (I think that is her) has that pattern on her website and then use the remaining fabrics for borders to enlarge to a nice Queen size and if anything is still left over make some pillow slips to coordinate. Good luck with what ever pattern you so decide upon.

Look at the Wickedly Easy Quilt at www.byannie.com. It's in her Free Patterns section. It is a somewhat scrappy looking quilt.

I would vote for a sampler. They would all be different but unified.

Star Gazer uses 9 fabrics, if you can include one more fabric, this would work:

Those are beautiful fabrics. I think they would work up well in a traditional double Irish Chain. I did one with neutrals and browns that were similar tones to yours and it came out beautiful
