This cracks me up for it is actually true for so many of us!LOL I said the other day the ideal quilt store would be the one that gave you a pass key or something to shop in the middle of the night:)Then we all could meet in the middle :0)LOL Skeat

That's the reason my initial post here on this forum was to ask if men are allowed, I didn't want to step on any toes in case they weren't. Happily, we are! :)
Eddie, I just read this post, and I think this is so hilarious and stupid of a policy. You know, women were excluded from "men's clubs" for years (the local Sheriff's Posse horse-riding club still excludes women) and now the women are doing the same thing to you. Such a shame.

Some of my best friends have been men. As a matter of fact, one of my very best friends is a guy.

They are shooting themselves in the foot if they would restrict you from being a member. Your quilting skills are wonderful, if they only knew what they were missing, they would regret this policy. I'm sure some of the members would have a lot to learn from you.
Thank you, Motomom. You made me smile today. :)

OMG...I have never heard of that 'no men allowed' and for what reason??Do they quilt in the panties or something?? Keep looking....I bet there is another guild around...we are doing the guild hopp'n around here...the longest drive so far for us was about 45min from home. Good group too...hope to find one of those closer to me!! I'm still hopp'n...and, hope you do too:)I'd sure like to know the 'why' no men....maybe they think they are just such 'hotties' the men wouldn't be able to contain themselves or something:)If my grandma were alive today, I'd think she helped w/those 'rules':)LOL SKeat.......

I asked at my church if there was anyone who wanted to sew or quilt and we now have 10 people who come twice a month and use the social rooms at church to get together. WE take turns bringing lunch. Then on Sundays (when the weather is bad) my DD and DIL come to my house to sew. I am lucky to have this camaradrie. Marge

I quilt by myself, but I have a network of friends over the Internett who have been quilting together for 10 years. We have retreats and I have personally met about 30 of them so far. I love them as sisters. When I need help with a problem, they are there for me.

Eddie-what a sad policy to exclude 'anyone' from your group. Wish you were in Colorado, we'd welcome you into our group!

    Yes, Yes!
I would love to have access to the huge cutting boards, tables large enough to baste a big quilt and ironing board!

I am a little of both. I belong to several groups where we sit and stitch but those are applique groups. When I do my machine quilt work, I do that alone. I prefer doing work on my machine alone because I get more done that way. I found these friendship groups by joining my local guild and they had splinter groups (friendship groups) already established and you could join one based on your likes and dislikes in quilting.

Hi, I wish we lived closer so that we could start our own group or you could join our "Has Beens" group of diverse ladies (and one gentleman) who needed more than what our local guild has to offer. Like you, I did not fit in nor did I like what I saw in the guild itself. Oh, yes, I know they can be great and supportive, but the level of nitpicking and outright anger at some of these meetings was a real turn-off. They were not welcoming to newcomers considering their select circle to be such advanced quilters that they did not seem to want to teach or to mentor a new quilter. Happily, we have smaller, less formal groups who meet, and thank goodness--no by-laws, no dues, no filing a tax return, etc., etc. So happy quilting to you. :D

I am very lucky that our church has a little group that meets on Tuesdays. We talk about all kinds of things, and they have big tables for when we need to lay our quilts out for pinning. Also my sister lives next door and she is a quilter too.

When I am not at the church, or with my sister, I just have a lovely quiet time by myself. I do not even turn on the radio. I do sometimes, talk to the dog though...... :-)

I have a close friend that I sew with sometimes. Local churches are good places to check for quilter clubs.
