Most people here have large fabric stashes. I don't have much fabric; but I have a huge stash of thread so I always have the color that I need for applique. I love to applique!

I have a ton of Sulky machine embroidery thread (I bot a 'lot' on Ebay years ago). I use it to do machine applique and match the colors to my fabric. And I use Madiera (sp?) prewounds, neutral, in the bobbin.

embroidery threads, I have 3 drawers full and this is not enough. I only purchase thread when it's 50% off. Yes, I use the embroidery machine to applique on my quilts instead of doing it by hand.

I use silk thread for hand applique and really only have a few neutral colors. My colors are white-ish, beige, dark tan, grey and black. The silk is so nice to stitch with.. the stitches hide beautifully.

Silk thread for hand applique- are you matching it to the base fabric, or the pieces that your appliqueing on? Meaning, use a light for a light background, or a dark for dark pieces?

What do you mean, you only use DMC thread? Is that if you are appliqueing? You can't use it on the sew machine, can you? oR CAN YOU!!!!! Wait for an answer, wondering if I am going to learn something new.

Like a lot of people who have been sewing for years, I had accumulated a lot of embroidery thread--all different colors and I use one strand pulled from a six strand piece, in the color I need. Since I do very little hand embroidery these days, it's a good use for the thread and I get a good color match because there's lots to choose from.

if i want the colors to blend in and i am doing it by hand i use embroidery floss ( micheals 39 cents). by machine i use one color that goes with it all or match the background color. it depends on what you want it to come out as.i think it is great thing about creativity is that you make it your own. creativity is one place there is no rules.

I use only DMC........I do all my applique by hand with the buttonhole stitch.....none of mine is done on the machine, only because I can't get my stitches to come out right.

DMC embroidery thread? That's a great idea. You can sometimes buy a little skein for about a dime. More than enough colors for $10!
A dime, really?? Just where the heck do you find that price at? Best I've seen for brand new is about 50 cents per skein. What do you consider a "little skein?" :?: ;-)
