You're not nuts. You're a quilter. You're simply planning ahead and making sure you have enough. See, a quilter can sew up a good reason for buying fabric at any time. If you need any more reasons, just give me a yell! I have 2 entire rooms of fabric.

Finally someone that is in my range with their stash, people look at me like what? When I say I have between 500 - 600 yards in my stash at home. I am sure it is more but that is what i guess at. I can never pass up a good buy and even tho0ugh I say no more i still come in with approx. 10 - 30 yards a month.

Yep, know the delima. Decided to use stash first each time I need a new charity quilt, or swap for the QB. Cut out two swaps today from stash, made me feel good.

I was politely informed by my mother today that I own more fabric than some of the shops I visit. Twenty five quilts from 500 yards sound about right to me though so...shall I see some of you at the shops?:)

Depends on how small you cut the pieces...more pieces, more seam allowances and how big you want to make the quilts.Lap size covers a lot of territory.

These are charity quilts made for children in difficult circumstances. They are usally lap sized and alot of guilds, craft groups, etc... do them. You can find alot of the patterns online. I can't remember which magazine now but the new Linus pattern was featured in the Nov/Dec issue I believe.

I wish I had half that. I have some stash but when I go through it I need to purchase other material to go with it, sometimes it is a lot and sometimes only a yard or two. Does anyone have some material that they just keep for that one perfect quilt? I have some of that - just can't seem to cut it up! If prices keep going up I will have to break down.

Been thinking with a lap sized quilt, 45 x 60 and pieced I usually use about 3 yards for the front and then about 2 for the back so you figure 5 total. So that easily gives 100 quilts. then there is always a little less here and a little more there but 100 should be a rough estimate. To think of the thread that would be used, YIKES!
