How Much Do You Pay For Fabrics, etc.
#41
Most LQS in our area are about $14.-$15. and up. A new one just opened up and prices are $9-$12. There is one about an hour and a half from here and prices are $6.50 to $12. I don't pay the higher prices unless it is a fabric I can't live without. Shopping in my stash a lot lately. Good luck in your new venture, looking forward to it.

most of my lqs have fabric 8-10 a yard...they run 'bottom shelf sales' where you can get it for 6 a yard....for middle of the road fabric (joanns, hobby lobby, walmart etc) i will only buy with a coupon or if it is on sale....but the regular price for those stores runs from 5-9 a yard.........i always look for on sale fabric...gina

I always buy my fabric online and on sale. I'm able to find high quality names like Hoffman, and moda etc for 3.00yd. Usually discontinued fabric but I don't care. I
also shop connecting threads for there sales. I like thousands of bolts and fabric.com and I love discountembroiderysupply.com for threads.

Here in Oklahoma we have shops that charge $8.00 to $10.00 per yd of good fabric. Most lesser value goes for $ 5.00 and up. We often have a %40 off sale so thats when I am able to get the top dollar materials. We do charity quilts and donations of fabric has been very slim the past year.

In Australia most quilting fabric is $18-$24 per metre; if you are lucky there will be some sale fabrics at $12-$15 per metre. So I have shopped a fair bit on the wonderful web sites recommended by others here. Up to 8 yards of fabric can be posted to Australia for $13-$14 per package so if I buy fabric on special for $5-$8 I am still way ahead. It helps that the Aussie dollar has reached parity as well -- last year it was only worth about 65cents!

My personal opinion is that some people who think buying fabric by "name", necessarily indicates quality, is so very incorrect. I have friends who pay $8-12 yd. and think it is such good fabric. Think again my friends - some is good and much is as good as $2.97-4.97 yd. Stores gen. charge what the traffic will bear. Say what you will - WalMart stores which carry fabric, has some good products. JCP used to carry the same quality product, if any of you are old enuf to remember.

Where I live, the LQS are fairly the same $9 - $10. Although, the last western suburban shop hop ( Chicago area ) I saw the same fabrics, same prints, vary in price from $9 - $12 depending on what shop you were in.
