I've been making minis for quite a while and wonder how much quilting others do on their minis. The pictures I just posted I found the less quilting the better. Quilting took away from the patchwork--rather than accentuating it. Any comments?

When I have made a mini I do stitch in the ditch to accentuate the patchwork rather than covering it up.

I'm reviving this post. I just HQ a mini log cabin from this thread. Tried to take a close up pic of my crooked stitching, but no luck. Question--would I be better off MQ diagonally through the LC blocks instead? I spent a lot of time piecing the LC and think maybe I should HQ, but really having a tough time keeping stitching straight with all the seam allowances.

Anyone have any more opinions on quilting small and miniature projects? Thanks, G.

I did too much quilting on this one, and it made it too stiff. I'm thinking a little less is better as well. I quilted it the same way I would have if it were a large quilt.....

Have you tried using the 1/4" masking tape or the 1/4" commercial tape made for quilters? I use the 1/4", 1/2", and 1" masking tapes to do "cross-hatching the background areas. Note on my attached photo of my 22" sq. "Amish Hearts" mini-quilt.

Love your Little Women quilt! I see you MQ a straight stitch through the squares, very simple. Like you say--maybe half the diagonals would've been better. You understand where I'm coming from. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful quilting! Thanks for sharing your work. The open spaces allow you to showcase your HQ. Yes I've used masking tape for quite a while. My problem is with quilts of even smaller pieces-finished pieces (1/2" and 1/4" squares or strips). Stitching goes wonky with all those seam allowances.

I think minis look best without too much quilting. One thing I do is use a thin or medium batting and pull it apart so it is only half as thick. This quilt has no quilting in it-I had MQ on it and it just made it too busy and when I pulled it out, I could see it actually looked best without any quilting at all.

I have trouble pulling my batting apart so that it is an even thickness. What brand of batting are you using?
So what's holding the three layers together in this darling quilt? Are the blocks 3, 4 1/2 or 6 inches?
How's the DQ coming? I'm ready to start quilting (MQ) on yours. Hope you like it! G

 I'm getting ready to work on your DQ, it's close to being ready to quilt. I use packaged batting from JoAnn's most of the time. I just carefully pull it apart and don't worry if it is a bit uneven in a place or two. There is nothing holding the pictured one together!! I use it on a table or for nothing at all, so I havn't worried about it. I wouldn't do that if it was used much or I might tie it.
