OH MY! My scraps are NOT cut, but I love scrappy quilts that I often spend hours trying to decide which pattern and which fabrics will work. I nearly always have to buy some to put it together.lol

I also went through the scrappy quilt show again. Like you I went through it when it was much shorter. I took me a few days this time. lol. I didn't have time to just sit and read through it all at one time. I need to start doing leaders and enders also. maybe I'll be able to make a quilt out of them one of these days.

OMG! justflyingin...I LOVE all three of your quilts! Now I know I'm just going to have to pull all my blue 2" squares to make a blue and white one! Thanks for sharing those pictures.

I must say I have a nice pile of 2" HSTs from the scrap triangles...trimming them as I go so I can quickly put them together for another quilt when I finish this one.

I know what you're saying, kyquiltlover1942, I had been saving 2" squares for a charm quilt...800+ squares...decided to use them up in the Sunny Lanes quilt so I had more of a variety. When I start cutting for new quilts I'll start all over again for the charm quilt. Let's see a picture of your quilt when you finish...

There are some really beautiful quilts in here.

My question is : what condtitutes a scrappy quilt? Is it only made from scraps, do you purchase some or all of the fabric or does it depend on the pattern? I've made quilts from books with scrap or scrappy in the title but had to purchase the fabric to get the quilt pattern to come out properly.

The idea is to make a scrappy quilt alongside another quilt without putting any effort into it. If you use the squares at the beginning or end of a different project row, then your stack will grow and you can soon put another scrappy top together.

Here's how fabulous those quilts are... I still remember them from your original post! And I have senior moments frequently, so you can see what a feat it is for me to remember anything for longer than 4 seconds... LOL! These quilts are the cat's meow!!!

IMHO, it can be pretty much anything. By that, I mean... it can be made from true "scraps" of fabric or you can buy fabric for it (I've done both & sometimes in the same quilt). I don't think it matters about the pattern too much. I think almost any pattern can be made "scrappy". I think there are 2 kinds of scrappies, tho... controlled & not. Controlled has a fabric that ties everything together & not is just whatever goes.
