    There are 5 walmarts in my area. Two have lost their fabric, but the others are keeping it, even after the renovations. I am lucky.

    We have three super Walmarts in Amarillo.....two have closed out fabrics and there is rumor another one will be. None of them carry embroidery thread however! It is totally amazing how hard it is to find plain embroidery thread. Amarillo has three places now, Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Jo Ann's

    Sam Walton's dreams about his Walmart have really gone down a different road since he died. The employees will run you over if you get in their way, if you ask for help they give you a look like you asked them to murder their child, and hateful...........they have to go to a special school to learn that degree they show their customers!!! If the prices were not so good, or there was somewhere else in the clickish, one horse, trashy, dirty boozer oil town outside Amarillo that I'm living in until the kids graduate, I would never cross their doorsteps!

    Well, it goes to show you that just hoping doesn't do the deed. Gives me a lesson on stepping out and doing something to stop "stuff" from happening as with what happened when the other store stayed open, presumably because of the "protests" against closing the fabric section.

    I wrote a nasty email to corporate headquarters for Walmart and they wrote that uncut fabric was being discontinued and space devoted to "family and life celebrations" departments (meaning party stuff, scrapbooking, kids crafts, etc.) They weren't getting enough profit margin from the department considering they had to devote a clerk to it. OUt of four Walmarts, we are down to one with fabric for just a year more. Their supply is getting really small. I did notice that Hancocks is increasing their fabric supply, but their prices have jumped to $7.99 a yard and up, and that included the same fabrics from Walmart that sold for $2.44! We do have a Hobby Lobby, but what they have is limited. Guess it's time to work solely from my stash for awhile.

    I love our fabric area ONLY when I know one or the other of my fav. gals is working. Anymore I go in the back door (Auto Shop) which is in the back near Fabrics. They have what? 12-14 if not more checkout stands, Yet I always had to wait in long lines cuz only one was open. I quit going. I have complained, emailed, called. ON DEAF EARS... So I go in the back to fabrics and leave the same way

    Our local Wal-Mart (well-50 miles away) has a huge fabric/notions department. And it seems to be getting bigger each time. If you look thru the sale items - there are some nice bolts of fabric for $1-$3/yd.

    All Wal-Mart stores will eventually NOT carry fabrics. It is a high loss area...seems some shoppers take the stickers off pieces of fabric, at checkout, the clerk thinks it is all on one sticker and don't double check so, it isn't all paid for. Sad, but very true! :cry: I registered many complaints when our local store stopped carrying fabric...it did no good...and like many of you, we are 25 miles or so from another fabric store. Besides, who can afford to pay $7 - $12 a yard for fabric all the time!

    so glad your keeping your fabric dept. we have 1 left and to be closed anytime have to go too hobby lobby or hancocks , both are 20-25 miles away.i'll talk to them about the dept. mayb it will help . happy for you

    :( :( :( :( :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: HI, my name is grannydi17. Our Wal mart in Salisbury, NC has already closed!!!!! Anger does not state how bad I and everyone else in our area feels. Wal Mart should be ashamed of themselves. This hugh store says it is there to help ALL people with their needs. Well I guess quilters, teachers and anyone else that uses fabric don't count. We must make them listen...... Diane

    I hope you don't mind my asking, but is this statement based on real facts or a "someone said" statement? Perhaps you have all the facts but, the reason I'm asking is that it doesn't seem right that we should be passing along mis-information to someone here on the message board. There are, for instance rumors of Joann Fabric and Craft stores closing and that is based on rumor and not fact because they are not closing all their stores. Could we help each other out and be sure before we start passing info along? Thanks!
