I guess I knew I would do this sooner or later...

I am so-o-o-o careful when it comes to rotary cutters thanks to my beginning quilting instructor. Unfortuately, I was not so careful with a paper trimmer & when changing the blade/cutter, I slipped & cut my thumb. No big deal, right? Did you know there is an artery in your thumb. I do now. I ended up with 6 stitches. Lesson learned.

My adult son was standing talking with me one day while I was sewing at the machine. When I turned around, I realized that he was holding my rotary cutter and sort of feeling around on it. I grabbed it out of his hand like he was still a little kid. Sheesh. It's a miracle he didn't slice himself open.

Ouch! I am so careful with my blades. I hate being cut. I was taught by my quilt teacher to get in the habit of locking my cutter as soon as I finish the cut and before laying it down. On occasion I have left it open and with the cats jumping on the table I must be careful so they don't get cut.

I learned that lesson when my little 3 yr old GS got hold of mine. Took it away from him, no signs of injury, and then I looked again and he had blood all over his face and hair and two fingers were dripping blood. He did not cry until I put a pressure dressing on the fingers. A couple of hours later, at his daycare, he proudly showed off his bandages. It was hard telling my DS and DDIL what had happened. I now close my rotor between each cut.

I used to lay mine on the table still open, then one day I
saw one of my cats playing with it. Scared the heck out of
me. Now it gets closed when I finish the cut, even if I've
got more cuts to do, so new rule is "if I set it down it
gets closed". Also my pincushions are no longer used for
pins. They've become cat toys. Pins go in a box with a lid
on it. Sometimes cats are worse than kids, the kids will
eventually learn but the cats will just keep on playing with
things they shouldn't. Sheesh!
