Cabbagepatchkidd, New England or not I pronounce it appla-kay also and I am from....Michigan. We all know what it means but can we all applique after this long discussion? Tee-Hee!

My DH, when he was younger, was helping his dad load his stock onto his Jewel-T truck. He told his mom he couldn't find those darn "per-call-lee" bedsheets anywhere! Turns out they were "percale" (per-cale) sheets! 40 years later...we still tease him about it.

I was telling someone how I have been dying to try applique (app-liqe) and have been printing and drawing templates. She was like, I dont think I heard of applique. So I explained it. She said, very nicely, "Oh I would probably pronounce it app-li-qay." We had a good laugh!

Before I started school (many years ago), I had learned recognize a few words. Every time we went to my grandmother's we would pass a sugar cane mill and there was a small building in the front that had a sign that I read as off ice. I wondered to myself why because even in the coldest weather, I could never see any ice, but I kept my wondering to myself. Imagine my surprise when I learned the word office and the meaning!

Well ! We surely got off the subject of quilting. But how people mispronounce English is my favorite subject. But getting back to quilting. The word "bargello" was one I never knew how to pronounce until less than a year ago. I had made some and was hoping someone would say the word so I would know how to say it. It is not in my dictionary, and this computer spell check doesn't know the word either. But one day I went to the Dictionary site and asked the guy to say it for me. The "g" in bargello is pronounced like the "z" in azure. What a relief. Now I can show people my magic mountain wall hanging and confidently tell them this is bar ZH ello.
