I have a 20 yr old Janome 8000, 12 yr old Janome 5000, and a 2 yr old 10001. None have ever been to a repair shop, all are in perfect working condition and I make 3-5 quilts per month, every month except December. They are workhorses and if you keep them clean and oiled, you will never have any trouble.

I recently was in search of a embroidery machine, and in the end I purchased a 350E Janome...I absoultly love love this machine...It is sooooooo user friendly...I can't of hand remember the difference in the 300/350E but it was enough for me to choose the 350E...I would do a search on price though...You won't be disappointed in the Janome or service for sure. I think it had something do do with transfering designs, hoop size ect. is why I choose my 350E....Love Love Love it...I'm currently doing a baby quilt right now and did embroidery on the sashing strips...When I'm finished I will post a pic.

I have the money saved (amazing that I haven't used it) Will continue watching this, thank you~
Well, Susan, just this past week I was looking for a starter SM for my newbie friend and (accidentally, I'm sure) sat down at a Bernina. I nearly fell over when the associate told me the price: $12,000. :!: She then showed us another one at $16.000!!!! Whew!
LOL I told my hubby about your Bernina experience, and his reply was this: "Next time she should leave her jewelry at home" thought that was pretty funny and thought I would share
:D

My husband would die of an instant heart attack if he knew what the new Bernina's are going for :D:D

I just started looking at embroidery machines. This info is very useful. Thank You all. I need to look at the Janome. Now, if I can only find a dealer in my area hmmmm.

personally, i would go with the biggest emb. area I could afford, even if it means going with used machine. If you find you really enjoy embroidery you will quickly outgrow the small hoop. I've heard good things about janome, but my exp. has been with Brother. have the ULT2002D for about 8 yrs or so now. Love it.

I have a Janome sewing machine and I love it. I did not want a combo so I bought a Brother PE700 and I also love it. I have heard many complaints about changing back from sewing to embroidery and I think it would annoy me. I use my embroidery in quilting often. There is a learning curve, and for me learning to stablize correctly, and I starch everything to keep out the puckers. Everyone loves embroidered burp cloths and quilts with all of the baby info on it!!!

Hello Bobbi
Choosing an embroidery only machine is hard I began with Janome 300E then progressed to 350E a couple of years later because of it's usb connection and similarity to the 11000 which was well beyond my price bracket. Both machines performed beautifully.
My daughter has the 11000 and has needed 3 new motherboards in the space of 3 years; a friend also had major problems and machine had to be replaced. I later bought a demo model Brother Innovis 4000D and personally find it more reliable than the Janome 11000. Do ask for demo, there is smaller Brother Innovis with Disney designs built in.

I have a brother pe780d -- It was a complete "impulse buy" I decided I wanted it, saved the $1000 I needed in about a month, and purchased it!

Had no embroidery experience, I'm a relatively new quilter, but I LOVE THE MACHINE!

You can check out my blog (link in sig) for the many many many different projects I've done. It has paid for itself a few times over just in the fun I have making things for gifts instead of buying (lol, well, buying fabric/thread/etc).

Pick a shop you like - regardless of machine brand. Unfortunately for me, my shop is two hours away. I picked it for weekly trips with my boyfriend (the girls there are amazing, and let me hang out for 6+ hours two sundays in a row without buying anything!) -- but now the boyfriend's reason for the trip is closed - so it's a special occasion to visit my girls. -- still every time I call or email they are super quick to help me.

=)
