I totally agree with the suggestions of adding some solid blocks or sashing strips here and there to break up all the prints. I would also opt for solid borders rather than the busy piano key border which would be easier too.

I almost bought the same material because I too really like that!! The colors really go well together. I think what you have looks very nice, but I think I understand what you are feeling. I thought long and hard about purchasing that material because I do LOVE it. I stopped before I purchased it - - only because I wasn't sure how all of the different patterns would go together - I love them all separately but putting them side by side I wasn't sure. I actually even almost purchased a 3 jelly rolls to get more of the pattern mix.. then I could put the patterns I thought went together in bigger groups for 2 or 3 quilts. Please don't let me make you feel bad, it does look nice. I just wanted to express what I felt because you are having hesitations as well

Rosie, it seems like every new quilt you start you end up not liking it mid way through, but it always turns out beautiful so maybe keep it in your mind you can do it and in the end it always comes out exactly like it should so stop beating yourself up over every project you do & just roll with it

I agree with Rosie - something's not working. The colours and the prints are lovely and the colours blend but you seem to have lost the design format of the vertical/horizontal patches because it's all running together and making it look hotch-potch. I think it really needs sashing - then you would get the impact of the design. If it were mine - it's not - and bear in mind that I'm old(!) I'd want to use a taupe that blends well with one of the lighter browns, with pink corner stones. You may prefer to use either the pink or brown - or for a really big bang - turquoise. I think that if you were to lay your blocks out on something plain - just leaving spaces to represent the sashing - you'd see what I mean.
Good luck with it, your friend will love it whatever you do.
