Cordelia.....we had a demonstration at our guild and we all made a mariners compass block, I don't know if this will help you, but we appliqued the whole compass onto a full square of fabric, basted it really well, squaring up the points......the stitched around it, and cut the back away....would this be easier for you that doing curved piecing I wonder???? :-)

COrdelia, I think your second attempt is on the money but heck I'm new at this so to me it's perfect. Your first attempt took me a while to barely see your problem I think you did a wonderful job on both and that is going to be a really pretty quilt when completed by all these lovely ladies.

Love the colours Cordelia really pretty. Beautiful points. Think Izy´s idea is great and might be the answer to your worries. Try it on your first one and then you will know better on the second attempt.

Cordelia.. I'm not even part of this round robin but I wanted to comment on your beautiful mariner's compass!! It is just gorgeous!!! One of these days I will attempt to make one as I love the pattern and would like to try my hand at it! Being how I live next door to the ocean here, I would love to make one with mariner's compasses and lighthouses!

Izy, my mom suggested the same thing. I can probably do that. I'm not sure what I'll do -- well, I know I'll try to piece on the border templates. If I'm lucky, it'll go as planned.
If not, Plan B.

Quilting Aggi, I posted the link to the pattern (paper pieced) on page 8. Download it. It also comes with a page of Triangulation squares too. They're awesome.

FINALLY, I am posting a picture of my unfinished block - it is not square yet but will be when I am done. This is a landscape block of a southern spring. The tree is going to be a dogwood tree in bloom ( I am cutting out the blossoms now) and then I willl have a few sprigs of wisteria hanging on the right side. The whole thing will be squared up and then I will put on a border on it to get it to the required size...all fusible machine applique!
Beginning of block for IRR
