Default janome 219s keeps getting jammed

hi there hope you are all well, so i had just received my course certificate in sewing and i had brought a janome 219s, not only looking at the booklet but i’ve looked online and researched how to thread it properly ect, i can only do a few stitches then it jams, then without touching the bobbin or anything it will suddenly do a few lines of stitches but it will be really lose at the back. (ive googled thread tension settings for this particular machine too and as far as i can see its all on the right setting, i’ve even turned the thread tension right up and makes no difference!) then its back to jamming again! the thread gets all in a mess just above the bobbin case that i have to take the everything out in the bobbin area to cut all the knots away and im not sure why its doing it? i am fairly a newbie to sewing but i had a really old sewing machine of my mums and was able to use it, but it had to go back. could i ask for any advice as to what i could be doing wrong or do you think it could be a fault of the sewing machine, when i put my foot on the pedal before it gets jammed it makes a funny noise almost like its struggling (motor?) any help would be appreciated as i have sat there in tears because i can’t get it to go!! i’ve got my diploma but cant use it. its so frustrating! apparently its a quite common problem for beginners? if im doing something wrong i just would like to know so i can get on lol x

It sounds like your top thread is the issue. Try rethreading it. Make sure your pressure foot is up when threading so it goes properly thru the tension guides

Make sure you're lowering the presser foot before you start sewing. Do you have a manual for the machine that shows the proper way to thread it?

I would suggest that you take your thread completely out and re-thread. Maybe you are missing a certain area where the thread need to go before putting it thru the needle. Your manual should give you some visual pictures or good instructions on how the thread your machine. Good luck and hope you get to sew soon

What type of sewing thread are you using? How is it wound on the spool? Check to see that it is coming off the spool in the right direction to the machine.

Make sure you are catching the tension disc when you are threading the machine. It can be easy to mis-thread.
Raise the presser foot all the way before you start to thread the machine. ( I don't know your machine but this is one tip I use for my machines.)

Is the bobbin wound correctly? Make sure the thread is wound firm in the bobbin and not squishy.
Is the bobbin inserted in the correct direction for your machine? Make sure the thread is coming off the bobbin the right direction.

What needles are you using and type?
Check the dial setting to make sure you are on the straight stitch and not a zig-zag.

    Good luck!

Hi, I had looked at the manual and even went online for advice for this particular machine, I made sure the bobbin was put in the right way ect, tensions were in correct setting for fabric I was sewing, I am more towards that this could be a fault with the machine as I have literally tried everything! I don't really want to send it back as getting another sewing machine right now is gonna be a nightmare! that's why I thought I would ask on a forum in case I'm missing anything. I used my mums old beige singer sewing machine before she needed it back and I could use that fine. That's why I'm a little confused x

Hi Rhonda I'm using a korbond thread. I don't know if that's a good make or not? I am using the needles that come with the machine and I had checked what way the bobbin thread goes online and manual. I use the bobbin winder to wind the thread on to the spool. I think it's all wound correctly as far as I know? But I will check that it's in the tension discs properly in a minute, just made me think, I think I threaded it all properly but I will check x

And you *are* lowering the presser foot before starting to sew, right? Is it a brand new machine, or did you get it used?

Maybe there is someone in your circle of friends or community who can look at the machine and how you're using it and troubleshoot for you.
