What do you think about this machine? Anyone have one or tried it? Things you liked about it and things you didn't like? At the moment I only have a hobbysew - can't do quilting on it basically - so I am looking to upgrade. Although there is no way I can spend 7500 on a horizon. From what I have read these seem pretty good? And there is $500 off the price at a website I have found.

I can't address that particular model, but I DO have a Janome 6600P...I love it (generally) but it has a few irritating points, at least to me. When you first push on the foot feed (at least on my machine) it starts out slow as molasses in January and takes its own sweet time to get up to speed...and this is no matter what speed you have it set on. I'm used to my older Bernina...I put it in "race" and she takes off! But all in all, the 6600 is a good machine, and doesn't balk at whatever I've thrown at her. Now if I could just make her "go" like the Bernina, I'd be a happy camper. Price was good, about $1500 in October. Take a chance! Good luck!

I have the 6500 and LOVE IT! It does everything I need it to. I do my own FMQ on it too even though I'm still learning how to do that! I don't really have any dislikes about the machine. I bought mine online with a 30 money back guarantee if I didn't like it. I have had it about two years now and use it every week. To me it is a great machine. Just a bit above the basic machine with all the bells and whistles I need.

I would go one step up to the 6600....it has the built in walking foot..."Accufeed" system....well worth the extra money.

What about the 1600P QC which is supposed to be for quilting - Do you guys have ideas on that one??

I have mountains of gorgeous fabric waiting to be sewn - but I've been busy having kids the last few years and now the eldest is off to school I have 3 hours a day of nap time - I can't wait to get into it!!

Buckeye - I just had a look at the 6600 - that does look really good - its $1000 of the rrp at a place here in Oz at the moment.

I have the 6500, I bought it on line. I do a lot of free motion on it. You can program it to sew one decorative stitch tie off and cut. I do this to tie quilts for Project Linus. I love mine. It does like to be cleaned often.

I've had a love/hate relationship with my Janome 6500. I love the thread cutting button, the larger harp and the variety of stitches. I've had serious problems with the bobbin case jumping and rattling and banging (has an oil wick hole under the case which should be oiled but nothing is mentioned about it in the manual), the build in buttonholer will not handle large or thick buttons, paint has worn off on the bed of the machine, jumps and veers off seam junctions, doesn't handle thick fabric or multiple layers very well, feed dogs will not raise and lower smoothly or easily, jams and balls up thread sucking it down into the machine at the beginning of stitching, no stitch length longer than 5 mm, 1/4" foot is not accurate and a dealer who kept claiming that these "issues" were due to "operator error!!!!" My Husqvarna Prelude 360, Singer Featherweight, Singer 201 and my Bernina 830 Record (old model 830) all sew a better stitch than my Janome.

check with a janome dealer for a used machine....I found a great used 6600 at a dealer for $1000 (someone upgraded to the horizon)....it came with free instructional classes and free quilting classes for life!.....I don't regret the purchase one bit, would do it again!

I have the 6600p Janome Love had it 2 years. We just purchased the 11,ooo quilting machine, cost us 3,450.

If you can afford the11,000 it is well worth the money. We will not give up the 6600p as we both quilt.
Check it out. 11,000 is beyond belief. Also heck out the 9700 about 1,800
