I agree with you, Onebyone. Some classes are just not for you: case in point - I took a computer design class because I thought that I wanted to buy the software. Best use of money I have every had! I couldn't stand the software: too complicated, NOT intuitive, difficult to use, and had to purchase all the libraries separately at over $100 each! That class was the best $35 investment I ever made.

Beautiful pattern onebyone, well worth sticking it out in the class to end up with a quilt like that.

"I strip piece her quilts. I cut the strips about the size of the pattern. Sew them all and trim".
Sewingitalltogether , quoted above..or others doing it this way...can you describe what/ how you do that? I love stip piecing, but hate pp.

I too have had poor experiences in classes. Sometimes it's the teachers and sometimes it's me.

I had planned to go to a JN class, but was unable to attend. I'm glad I didn't. The only thing that was accomplished in the two day class was cutting out the pattern and a few pieces. The ladies are going to have another go at it in the spring.

I found an 18-part Youtube video for the pattern Fractured Star and will study it along with the pattern before I even begin to hopefully be ahead of the curve. I'm hoping the video class will contain enough clear information that I can work on my own.

Carol Doak has a class on Craftsy. Her pp way is the standard of how to pp. You may find the DVD of her pp online, I wore mine out. Once you learn the basics of it you can change it to suit you and know why and what you can change. JN does the basic that Carol does but makes it more complicated or easier, according to how your brain is.

    Stitch678,
Put your ruler on the piece you want to cover. Make sure you are including the seam allowances. And a bit, just in case. JN always has the seam allowances marked and the stitch line. You will want to see the widest part. My ruler is usually at an angle to get the most accurate measurements. I cut my strips at that width. The length will be as long as your piece. If I was you, I'd watch a few of her Utube videos. Instead of her exactly cut piece, you will have a strip. Mine look a bit wider and a bit longer. Hope this helps.

I had the first of a two part intro to pp class today. We are doing a JN pattern, stained glass window I think. It’s been pretty slow going so far but I’m hopeful that as I get more comfortable with it, I’ll be able to speed up.
