I feel that way too but the other day I took a friend of mine to the doctor and one staff member we had to see for a consultation had her office walls filled with quilts she had made. I was so intimidated and was having a good look. They were beautiful. The lady became uncomfortable and said she had made many mistakes and she just knew they weren't that good, she began to point out some of her free motion work where she had crossed a thread or whatever. I would have never have seen them had she not pointed them out, really made me think how harsh we are on our own work... YOUR QUILT IS A WORK OF ART!

Make a list of "all" the things you say are mistakes, like a check list and over time post some questions about them and how to make corrections for future projects. Your quilt probably isn't as bad as you think. You've been bit by the the perfectionist bug. The cure? Icecream and standing across the room from said disaster and see if you can spot anything "wrong". Post the pictures again!!!

Made with love. Love isn't perfect either!

Usually only we see the mistakes, I just carry on and for sure people can see that it was made by huuman hands and not mass produced in a factory somewhere!

Everybody is there own worst critic. In general, you know the mistakes but nobody else does. And unless you point them out to other people....they don't see it, they see a beautiful quilt. Practice and experience will give you the confidence to not be so hard on yourself. There is always something to learn, different techniques, tips, etc. I am by no means an expert, but I feel more confident than when I first began. You will probably always know where you feel you flubbed up, I think that is normal, just don't fret over it.

Thanks everyone, I am finding that just a bit of time really helps. I sandwiched the quilt this afternoon and will start to quilt it tomorrow. Like someone said, I learn something with each quilt, and I think with this one I learned that no matter how hard I try, there will be at least a few mistakes and I will probably be the only one who cares. :)

do you have a place where you could put your newly finished quilt to see it from a distance?
I have a loft, so my DD and I hang our newly finished tops over the railing to the great room and go downstairs to see it. What I can see up close is not noticable even by me at a distance. This distance will give you perspective on the quality of your work. It will help... trust me.

I am in the process of restoring 3 quilt tops that were left unfinished by my beloved Great Grandmother, who taught me much about quilting. She had quilted and tatted her entire life, and I thought she could do no wrong. The quilts tops looked so beautiful to me. It was only when I started to get into the nitty gritty of replacing frayed or worn through patches that I realized the quilt tops were not perfect, they had flaws! And there were things she had done to cover up the flaws. I never would have found them if I hadn't started taking the quilt tops apart. Boy, have I learned a ton about hiding flaws! Great Grandma Thayer was 93 when she died. That's decades and decades of quilting, and she still had flaws.

Life is a process of creating yourself, making yourself into the kind of person you want to be. It's not about "finding" yourself, because there is nothing to "find". You have to create it. That takes work. I know I will never make "the perfect quilt". That doesn't stop me from trying! Everything I make is just that much better than the last thing I made. And I work hard, very hard, to keep that improvement moving along. As long as I can see progress, I am satisfied. Can you move yourself into that mind frame?

Washing them plumps up everything and can hide many "mistakes".

I always like my quilts so much better when I pull them out of the dryer and they are a little wrinkly and warm. mmmmm...

I wouldn't want anyone to know how many mistakes I make on just one quilt and it really bothers me to make mistakes as I am a perfectionist usually they are noticed before I get too far into putting the top together so I can correct them

you may see the mistakes now but the great thing is that no one else will see them. That is the reason why I like making quilts for others; I can point out my mistakes but they only see the beauty in them. Works out great for me.
