Making me homesick too as I am from Lancaster. No one here eats scrapple or talks about it without making a face or red beet eggs either for that matter.
Thanks for the name 'scrapple'. I wanted to order gingerbread but ordered scrapple by mistake. What a shock when I took a bite!
OK - more to add, I make pickled red beets, & we always add hard boiled eggs to the juice left - MIL, from Ohio taught me that. FIL loved scrapple - tried it once - enough! Shoo-fly pie is a favorite with my family, also learned how to make it when 1st married in Ohio.
montanajan...I am soooo impressed. Haven't run into a single person in this part of the country who knew about that...even the adding more eggs to the left over red beet juice...that's a hoot!

Is the ingredients or whatever scrapple is in this post? I have been tied up at the hospital with my husband and really didn't have time to read all of these comments.

Good Grief!!! Never heard anyone else talk about red beet eggs!!! We made some for the neighbors here once, and they turned up their noses at the color. Evidently they didn't know what they were missing. The pickled eggs they have here are just vinegar and maybe some mustard seed to color the liquid a bit...they look rather "pukey" to me. We never called it scrapple, it was always panhaus (pronounced pawn-hoss). They turn up their noses at that too...too bad for them! I remember "I WANT MY MAYPO" too...that's too funny!
We always did the red beet eggs at Easter since we had all those eggs from the Easter egg hunt. Haven't had them in years now though. Kids are all grown & hubby doesn't eat them. P.S. I am originally from Ohio also.

Thursday was my day trip to the Lancaster area with 3 lady friends. I found the perfect fabric for binding a quilt I just finished for my sister-in-law, at Good's, in East Earl, for $2.79 yd. My eyes lit up when I noticed they had Hoffman Bali PopsŪ 2-1/2" batik strips for $27 per pkg. At the Re-uzit shop on Rt 23 I purchased 4 older quilting magazines (.25 ea.), and a few pieces of fabric (.65 ea.) for the baby quilt I'm making. We saw Music of the Night, the songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber at the AMT, and indulged at Shady Maple for dinner. While the sun was shinning in NJ, it poured rain, and hail throughout our day in PA. No matter what the weather, you always have a fun day in the Lancaster area.

Where do you stay in the "quilt circuit" Penn./Amish area so you are centrally placed for quilt shopping? I would only have a weekend to stay there and it's 8 hours drive I think so I'd like to be centrally located to head out n/s/e/w to shop. I appreciate any help.

Hi Zoeytoo. We've stayed at the Fulton Steamboat Inn, Rt 30
    "fultonsteamboatinn.com", and Saudersburg Motel on
Rt 30 "saudersburgmotel.com". Dienners Restraunt "dienners.com" is directly across from the Saudersburg Motel. There are many hotel/motels, and restraunts on Rt 30. I would estimate that many of the fabric shops are within a 30 minute drive.
This website "quiltart.com" lists many of the quilt shops, and their location. Below I've listed some other websites that may be of help to you.
    "800padutch.com"
    "quiltand textilemuseum.com"
"padutchcountry.com" (for a map & overnight get away)
"visitpa.com" (subscribe to the Pursuits Magazine )
    "Shady-Maple.com"
    "amtshows.com"
    "800padutch.com"
"800padutch.com/lititz.shtml (a little town to visit the Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, Wilbur Chocolate Factory, Moravian Church Square, and Lititz Springs Park)
Check out some of these websites and see what suits your fancy before planning your trip.

Thank you very much. You are so kind to send me so much information. I will be enjoying making plans using these sites. Family members aren't up to it now but half the fun is planning so I am ready to plan!

You're quite welcome Zoeytoo. Eight hours is a long ride for just a weekend, but if you plan ahead, and keep moving once you get there you'll acomplish a lot.

It was an 18 hour drive for me for the weekend but I would do it again. Planning definitely helped.
