All you need is an OTT lightbulb, which you can get at Lowe's for under $10.00.
Yes, it gives a really good light. To me, it's like natural light. I use it to hand quilt at night. I put the bulb in a cheap floor lamp with an adjustable gooseneck. If you are doing hand work and are right handed, the light should come over your left should. Vice versa if you are a leftie.

I have a serious problem with dark colors. Even contrasting thread is zero help. Can't see anything at all without the Ott. Can see just barely enough with the Ott.
I think it's worth getting just for general use alone. It does help.
It's cheaper if you wait for a 40% off sale at Jo-ann's. They go quickly though.
