If you wanted to make this pattern larger, would you just keep adding sections as I thought it would look great as a bed quilt?

Wonder how it would look as a scrappy...........meaning each block in a different color family. Hopefully I've explained this correctly. I'd imagine that would take some thinking to make it look as beautiful as it does in the original pattern.

I bought the pattern and need to make it. I'm working on using up scraps now. Maybe next year I will get to making it.

I like your idea. If I were trying to make that as a quilt, I would think of making 'strata strips' as Nancy Zeiman calls them, then cut those onto triangle shapes, and fit them together. I would start with a paper sample, with pens to show color maybe, to find what the angles need to be to make it work, then start cutting the fabric strips.
It will be beautiful when you are done.

There is a tutorial here on the board somewhere so I didn't need to buy the pattern. I used it to make a quilt for my son.

Dina when I went to the site to download the instructions part of it was a big white square leaving out some instructions. You wouldn't happen to remember what the instructions are that are missing? Thanks

I had forgotten that part of the pattern was missing, but it is only the picture, I think. The written instructions are correct...or if they aren't, they must be fairly easy to figure out, because I did. Let me see if I can find my pattern. Maybe I added notes...

Okay, I am looking at my pattern, and I didn't add any notes, though there is a blank spot in the picture. If you look to the right, under Making the Quilt Top, it tells you how many to make of each color. If you look at the top of the picture of the quilt, where it is divided into six pieces, you can see how the smaller pieces, A, B, C and D are to be placed. Study it a bit and you will be able to figure it out. I promise. If I could figure it out, anyone can. I have only been quilting 3 years, and I had never made a log cabin before. (Still haven't, other than this...)

I hope this helps. I sort of remember someone on this board coming on and saying this pattern had been corrected, but I never went to look at it. Perhaps if you google Karen Combs, First Light Log Cabin, it will take you to a corrected pattern?

I clicked on the site Dina listed, and couldn't get anything to come up. I finally 'googled' First Light Log Cabin quilt pattern, and this came up:

Thanks, Janis. I was able to get there using both sites, but maybe I was just lucky. Each site has the same blank part in the instructions though. I guess that just never got corrected, though it is pretty easy to figure out what part of the picture is missing.
