Some of us are tactile in nature ...if something doesn't feel good to the touch we don't want to work on it or wear it. I do like and use batiks sometimes to fit the project and because of the color variations from the hand dying process but I check the feel first since some feel nicer and handle better than others. If it's too stiff I usually pass on it.

The fabric does not feel good; you'll get no argument from me about that, plus there is it's propensity to bleed color. However, I just love the swirly colors; I think most of them are absolutely stunning.

I just can't see what to use them for. I've seen pretty stuff done with them, but I can't visualize them in my stuff. Some quilters just don't care for them and that is okay.

I find too many have places that are muddy. Like when 1st graders get to use watercolors on big paper. Sort of a purpley yellowy greenish diareha looking color. UGH

I love batiks, I love the colors and how they look in a quilt, I have never had trouble quilting them. My avatar is a batik quilt.

To each his own. I'm not thrilled by civil war or reprodection prints, but I love batiks.

As a hippie of the 60's, I made and loved tie dyed things. When I first saw batik fabric, my first thought was---finally, tie dyed fabric that I didn't have to mess with....I still love it.

I think many batiks are just beautiful. But, I've not sewn much with them because I have difficulty selecting a pattern that would work well with batiks. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I am a batik nut I wish I was more computer wise I would post the quilts I have made What I like is the vibrant colors .I am a jewel color nut and I find batiks lend to the use of 100 or more fabrics in a quilt .I also enjoy the fact that there is no wrong side to a good batik.Right now I am using batiks in Carol Doaks mariners compass stars and the quilt on my page is 100 percent batiks A simple quilt pattern out of batiks is the use of wonder blocks on point . I do wash all fabric before using I find I am sensitive to .tHe smell. This may help some.Happy quilting.

I think it's all about the colors and the free-form of the design that makes me like them. They aren't for every project, but it's nice to include them with a solid to make something that really stands out. Some of them looks like dark storm clouds and I think that's what originally attracted me to them. I love to use them on the back of quilts, too.
