Making an "Oh My Gosh" quilt--pure insanity or not? I'd love some tips from the sage.

So, I have done a test 9 patch to see how it will work. I prewashed, dried and starched only a few of my fabrics to start with so the color selection isn't as good as it could be but this gives an idea. The fabric is thick but I've worked with similar fabric last fall making 10 quilts for Christmas. It is probably harder using a thick fabric for such tiny pieces but this block wasn't that hard so I'll next try the 4 patches on point-that will definately be the hardest block. I'll have to wait till the pattern arrives before I do that one so I get the measurements correct.
The middle square is a lime green and didn't photograph very well. The light lavendar looks a little too light compared to the other fabrics so I'll have to decide if I want to use my lighter shades or just keep to the medium and medium dark ones.

I tried to order this pattern through Quakertown Quilts but it said I needed a tax # and a purchase order #. I was just going to put in the #1 but it wouldn't let me do it. Did anyone else have a problem? or what did I do wrong?

That probably means that they only sell to retailers ... so unless you are one, you're out of luck from that source!

I'm actually working on that pattern now, it's been a WIP for quite some time unfortunately due to weddings and babies taking priority!!
I advise against the Fairy Frost though. The one's that I've fingered are a heavier weight fabric, and the heavier weights are not as easy to work with when sewing small pieces together and very tricky to use a heavy weight like FF with a light weight like a WOW. You'll find that your 1/4" seams will be more difficult to keep uniform.
The size of the double 9 patch block (finished) is 4.5" which means that the smallest single block is 1/2" (finished). It is strip pieced though.
I sewed dozens of 1" color/white/color strips (using different combinations of color), and white/color/white together then sub-cut each of them and kept them in mini stacks. I would then choose random pieces to make my 9 patches and kept those in stacks. I then cut my white squares and chose random 9 patches to make the double nine patch. I have all of my double nine patches done and I've been playing around with EQ7 to see if I like different block with them other than Shoo-Fly. I think used a total of 20 different colored fabrics in primary and secondary color prints, and perhaps 5 different WOW.
Good luck! Its a fun quilt!

DogHouseMom, it sounds like you are making really good progress. It was tricky making the 9 patch so small but not impossible. However, I haven't made the 4 patch on point (I think that is going to be the hardest block).
I actually decided tonight after considering my results of the FF to switch to using my batiks. I have over 100 fat quarters of rainbow bright colors that covers the whole spectrum so I won't need any additional fabric unless I want to expand on some of the colors (I'd like a few more teal and aqua ones). The batiks are a medium to medium-light weight so they should be a bit easier to work with.
I would love to see a photo of some of your blocks and fabrics.
