I've worked with Kona in a few colours but mostly black and haven't really noticed much of a problem but I do prewash and then starch slightly when ironing out the wrinkles. Kona is the most available in our area to buy.

Kaufman is the manufacturer of the Kona solids we are talking about. However, I think much confusion arises because there is another manufacturer of fabric that goes by the name of Kona Bay. Kona Bay solids are not the same as Kaufman Kona solids. It's been a long time since I shopped in JoAnn's, but it seems to me that they used to carry Kona Bay solids more so than Kaufman Kona solids.

I am using Moda in a quilt now and am very disappointed. I always prewash fabric. When I did this time the Moda shrank a lot. I have had to remeasure all the pieces because I lost about 10%. Next time it will be Kona for sure.

I have used Kona cottons for ages and loved them, but I find they are a little thicker fabric than most of my cottons. I have lately been buying Waverly cottons from WalMart but their white is not a true bright white like I usually like. It has worked really well with my quilts though and the price and fabric are really good for what I make. I am not making heirloom quilts so the cheaper fabric is working well with me. I love Waverly in everything else so I am trusting these quilts will hold up to repeated washing.
