I just finished a throw-size quilt for a friend and I used the Burst Block pattern by Rob of Man Sewing. I bought the template and it worked like a charm. Most important advice for this template is to be sure that you place the bottom of the template as directed. Anyway, here is my quilt with colors that might work.

I think you and your sister need to shop for fabric together. There are many complementary colors that you can use. I think you are getting stuck because the decorations just are not your style. You can easily match patterns to the curtains. You might even try batiks. Good luck, you are a good sister!

If the distance is too far, maybe your sister could send you some fabric sample, photos, or on-line pictures

I agree with these colors. Try to avoid large floral prints since they will conflict with the drapes

I would make a log cabin using some of her colors and a lot of different colors. That room needs a spark of pretty.

Just pick up the colors in the drapes.

If I were making her a king size quilt, I would take one panel of the curtain and a paint chip of the green walls and dear sister to pick out the fabric with me. I always lay out the fabric that has to matched and then lay out the other fabrics on top of it. I don't know about a star quilt top for that room though...

Shabby chic in browns and adding some more florals, especial roses, if you can find them in the same color. Could you get one of those curtain panels? What a pretty room! I really like the green and have one room like it in my house.

I would pick a color from the curtains that I really like. Then I would pick out fabrics to go with it.

I finished my sister's quilt this week. It is now in Tennessee with her, she loves it! Thanks to all of you for the suggestions!

Here is a close up of the color and fabric variations I used throughout the quilt. I used the bright yellow square in every other yellow/cream block to give the quilt some "pop".
