New quilter in the Family

Your GD is so cute with her little machine and project! I teach Kids sewing classes at my local JoAnn's and the kids are always so excited when they finish their project. One class that I taught in the past was a tote bag from Leisure Arts "Cool Stuff, Teach Me to Quilt" book. It was a quilt as you go project made from fat quarters, and was a very popular class.
Here's a couple girls with their totes :D

it would be great if you take pictures every step of the way. Then make a quilt by transferring the pictures to each block. Then give it to her years later to keep the loving members alive. She is a little doll. Very bless to have someone to show her how to quilt.

Congratulations on "infecting" the next generation. A couple of years ago, I went to Maryland to spend time with one of my granddaughters--7 years old at the time. In order to have something to do, I took sewing machines and fabrics and she made a quilt. Last year we made another, and this year she wondered if we'll make another one. It's exciting to see her sewing and enjoying it. I started sewing when I was 5 years old since I was finally able to reach the treadle and the top of the machine at the same time. My mother was very patient, and generous in letting my sisters and me use the machine. When Daddy said, "They'll sew their fingers!" her response was, "They won't do it but once!" And we didn't!

My ambition this summer was to start my granddaughters learning to quilt. Maria did a great job listening as I was explaining the pressure foot, foot pedal & most important, keeping her fingers away from the metal foot. I started her out on just sewing paper with no thread, then I drew lines for her to follow. She was on her way & Granny had tears streaming down her face as Maria was saying how fun it was to sew like me. I got out a piece of felt & cut it in squares & she started sewing them together with my guidance. Maria sewed for 2 hours. She wants to finish the other squares tomorrow & make me a pin cushion.
IF it goes as she plans, I will post a pic of it!
I originally planned to start them on my machine, but I got this Singer Pixie on a very good clearance. I am so proud of her accomplishments today.

But! Great for a young beginner though!
