What a beautiful little girl I envy your joy in teaching her I have one son that is not even thinking of getting married and presenting us w/ grandchildren. I get to share my 2 year old grandniece with my sister who is the Grammie. Teach your grandson too. My son use to put my machine in his room to sew paintball camouflage!

My 9 year old GD stayed with me for a week. When I asked her if she would like to learn how to sew on the sewing machine her eyes got real big and she said "Oh Gramma, could I?" I have tears in my eyes as I type this. She had never touched a machine in her life. I had left over squares from the quilt I made her for her birthday and let her arrange them to her liking. Usin a piece of scrap I explained about "right sides together". I had her then sew the scraps together. She did great. I pinned each square for her and she did all the sewing. In 3 hours she had her pillow done! I helped cut out a back and we stuffed it with left over batting. She even hand sewed the opening we used to stuff it. She very happy and so am I!

I always wished I had someone to introduce me to quilting when I was younger.

THAT is a 'WONDERFUL' idea. Thank you so much for the idea. Papaw did tape a video as well as several pics. Next week, I am going to show her how to use an iron & let her iron some squares. There will be pics of that as well. Little by little to get her going. Papaw bought a small iron for her tonight. Thanks sewmuchmore :)

Alu ... the Pixie went back to the store earlier tonight. For some reason, the needle couldn't pick up the bobbin thread. I worked on it after she went home & there was no way I could figure it out. What was neat about it was that it could go on batteries as well. The 2nd day, she was using my machine, so that is what she is going to do from now on.
Things just aren't made like they use to be. But Maria was thrilled to use "granny's machine.
