Try turning your mat over. <G>

You also want to be careful to not cut at the same place all the time. Move around on your mat, rotate the mat and so on.

And mats do wear out. We sometimes have to replace them.

I have a 6" x 8" mat that I use for trimming and cutting small blocks. That is what takes it's toll on my mat. It is much cheaper to replace the small one than my large mat.

I realised I needed to replace my mat when a new didn't last two weeks, and that was not even cutting out a whole quilt  Sew two new mats two different sizes.

I just ordered it. I figure it will pay for itself pretty quickly.

I have that same problem. I'm always sure I can use it just a little longer. The sharp blade makes things so easy.

Have you tried the new titanium blades? So sharp and last way longer than the steel ones.

I have not heard of titanium blades.. who makes them?..

I have tried some of the titanium needles, but don't have an opinion on those yet, not enough experience to know if they are any better.

I believe that Martelli make those blades but that they are more $$. Superior thread has the titanium needles and I love them. Martelli has a double mat. One side is yellow and the other is purple. I have had it for several years and hasn't had a cut and it straightens out if left in the car.
