Hi,
The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I'm still using the machine. I went to my dealer and told them what happened and they ordered me a new screw and never mentioned not to use it, as long as the other screw is holding the plate tight, there should be no problem.

Try to get it out with one of those magnetic arms.

take the bottom off the machine there is usually a couple screws to take the bottom piece off and you will probably find it in there. I've done this with my janome 4400.

So glad you got it out. I have a Janome 9000 and I was lucky enough to get the servicing manual. So I just went and got it to see if I could find how to get it out. Sorry I didn't read it earlier.

Oh yes and NEVER EVER PUT A MAGNET NEAR THE machine for any reason. The repair guy told me so many people do this thinking "it's only a little magnet". BIG NO NO!! Glad you have a smart hubby.

Hi,
When you removed the bottom, was it attached to anything inside, wires, etc., or did the case just come off? I would like to try this , but live alone and the machine is heavy. Didn't want to have to struggle with tucking wires or anything back in. Look forward to seeing your reply.

I have a Janome 6600 and I was sewing away. Bobbin ran out so I decided I would clean any lint out.
Bad mistake - I droped the plate cover screw inside the machine! Uggh! What an idiot.
I knew things were going too well. I can't see the screw but I definitely hear it in there. I have not run the machine since this happened nor will I until I get that darned screw out.

My Janome dealer is 1 hour 15 minutes (60 miles each way) away! Anyone know what to do in a situation like this?
Is this something I can get to myself?

I am also upset because I took the Janome extension table off and it has created scratches on the front of the machine base. I usually have it in the sewing table but I right now I have been sewing in the kitchen and decided to use the extension table. Not a good night.

Got a good magnet?? tape it to the inside somewhere that you can reach it easily then shake the machine around a bit-------------------unless this is a computer machine------------then skip the magnet.

I have a Janome 6600 and I would never put a magnet anywhere near it. I don't even use a magnetic pin tray when using it. Magnets a A BIG NO NO for electronic machines. Don't chance it, they cost too much in the first place.
I'm surprised at how many people advocated the magnet. Don't use them near a serger either as they have timing which can be knocked out.

Take the bottom off and you will be able to get the screw out. I just cleaned mine out.
