I'm sure her comment really stung and I'm sorry. Be glad you heard her opinion before giving her the quilt. Kids are funny...just when you think you know them...

I'm sure your quilt would be loved by many...perhaps a very good friend?

I've seen some pretty black, white, and red quilts on this board..perhaps the posters will supply you the links.

Here is a great red, black, white collection:

Yes, kids will be like that. Here's a nice black & red to get your ideas going. It's a disappearing 9 patch - so easy it surprised me too! I'm doing one with black, white and turquoise green.

Finish making it...if you don't have anyone else in mind for it, than put it away with a note attached to it that the quilt was meant for this Granddaughter but she didn't care for the colors...
Save it a few years....her taste will change....

Yep, kids are like that, including DIL
I sent her a bag and matching fabric covered journal for her B'day. Her response, I like the book.
The bag was not pink LOL

Here is a black and red one I did a while ago, it is a really simple pattern that makes up very quickly.

Don't let your GD's comments discourage you, if everyone liked the same thing there would only be ONE quilt pattern and that would be really awful.

I stopped trying to sew things , even buy things for GD several years ago, about the time she hit high school. She is beautiful, and I see so many things that would look perfect on her, but no matter what I get, she doesn'T like it, and I don't go for older styles. So, she either gets money, or I get her help in choosing. For Xmas, my teenager GS, and her go online to their favorite shops, make a wish list, and then I go back and pick from that. I don"t remember being so picky ! If someone was kind enough to give a gift they thought was "right" for me, I kept it and liked it. I'm just planning to make my Grands baby quilts and put them back until the time comes. Hopefully I will still be around!!But maybe if I am dead, they will appreciate it more.LOL

I'm sorry that happened to you. Dealing with kids is tough.
I made a black, white and red quilt for my daughter that she just loves. It was the star log cabin quilt by Eleanor Burns. Black & White logs, red stars. That might be something she'd like.

Same thing happened with my niece. I spent a lot of time, energy and money on a bed-size quilt as a wedding gift She couldn't have cared less. Said "gee, that nice, thx" and didn't even take it out of the box. No thank you note either. These days, I'm a little pickier when choosing recipients.

I made a quilt for my son for Christmas, one I thought he would love. When he opened it my heart sank because I could see on his face how much he hated it. He said he didn't like the "old lady fabric" I had used. When he left to go home he wanted to leave it behind. I convinced him to take it with him and a couple of days later he contacted me and apologized for being so ignorant about the quilt. He had put it on his bed and realized that he really did love it. (When he was looking at it from a distance he couldn't see the teeny little flowers in one of the fabrics I had chosen!!) I felt so good after our conversation and I promised him I would never make him another quilt unless he chose the fabric himself!

Hopefully you hadn't gotten much done.

I had the same thing when I was going to make my DD one of my photo pin cushions. I had some really neat fabrics picked out for her and was going to surprise her......she saw it and when I showed her the fabrics ....said she didn't like those colors. I still haven't made it for her! I will, but it might be for her birthday.
