I really like Fabric.com - even if they are not as good as they were a few years ago. I have also had good luck on Amazon. I watch the sellers and I have gotten from Hancock's of Paducah and Fabric.com Sometimes I feel like the shipping costs are little cheaper through Amazon.
I like Missouri Star as well but I don't buy from them as often as I do from the others

I've bought wide backing online from Fabric.com and Connecting Threads and have not been disappointed. The only thing I'd be careful of is the color. We all have seen where colors displayed on the computer are not true. Early on I bought some wide backing that I thought was peach and it turned out to be a bright orange. On my computer, a laptop, the color intensity on the screen depends on the angle of the screen. I had to experiment a little before I had the right angle to display fairly true colors when shopping for fabric.

I've bought from a huge number of on-line shops and there's no problem with quality. The problem is, the monitor representation of the fabric is not always accurate, so you sometimes get surprises with the color or the scale of the design. I love muslin for a quilt back, depending on the quilt.

Muslin works fine and having bought wideback from several on line (Connecting Threads, Fabric.com, eQuilter, etc) I'd say the same thing about on-line as when I buy in a shop or Hancock's---always buy more than you need as wideback is almost always off square and needs to be squared up--by 3-6" usually. (but I'm had worst!)

Marshall's Dry Goods has nice quality backings in prints and they are reasonably priced. 108" wide runs $7.99 to 8.99, and they have great prices on batting rolls and other fabrics, too.
