Gee, thanks for that bit of info. I wandered why we needed to cut the salvage edge off and now I know. I had not heard the reasonng behind it or ever read why.

I always cut them off. Now there are color swatches in the selvage to help you pick out colors that match the fabric. I will save a cut of those before throwing the rest out. They do shrink differently than the fabric.

I always cut off the selvage. I make my pillowcases the "burrito" way and use French seams. There is usually enough play room to trim down the body of the pillowcase to match the cuff. I use a variety of widths for the trim. Sometimes I use Rick rack. It just depends.

I also cut off the selvages. I have seasonal pillowcases on our bed - just feels festive.

I don't see any reason why you can't add a bit of fabric to increase the width of the cuff fabric. Find something in your stash that coordinates nicely or contrasts well. I've cut my cuff fabric in the center and added the extra there so that it's even.

I did a very "manly" pillowcase for a son-in-law for Christmas out of tool fabric. Just for fun (and to tease him a bit!) I added a piece of rubber ducky fabric in the cuff. He's big and gruff sometimes, but a genuinely sweet guy.

Get creative!!

I got a late bday present from one of my sisters yesterday at our THKS. gathering and the bag was so pretty that I wished it was fabric so I could use it for pillowcases or other projects..
