Portable bobbin winders - yea or ney?

You can adjust the tension of the thread by turning the white knob. You can unscrew the thing, and have plenty of room to put in a small heavy blob of metal (I found in DH's shop) It doesn't wobble or tip anywhere now. I put a plastic straw over the spindle to make it longer so my spool doesn't dance off. The little fine tuning made it must have item for me. My grand winds dozens of bobbins, I'll never be bobbin poor. :D

:-) Yeah! love it, don't have to play with the sewing machine if the bobbin I am using runs out. It did take me about an hour to get it working right the first time. Per previous posts, you can adjust the tension and also manually stop (very easy) if it tends to overfill your bobbin. The instructions are not useful; had to figure how to adjust etc. myself.

My machine has a winder on the side so if I can get myself organized before I start, there is no need to have the portable one, I have been looking and wondering though. I like the ideas and different points of view on this board. Everyone is so helpful.

I say Nay. I have a Viking, and you can wind new bobbins as needed, even when your project is under the needle. I do wind extra bobbins before starting, and I do like the idea of using pill bottles to store the extras.
