Question for our European members: are the prices you're quoting including the VAT or is that on top of the price you listed?

That's what always gets me. I must say, it's nice only paying 9.25% sales tax in Chicago. I can't imagine paying more than double that rate. Depending on where you live in the States, a $12 yard of fabric could cost anywhere from $12-$13.25 (some parts of the US do not charge sales tax).

My prices include VAT (which is currently 20% here).

That's something I find difficult to get my head round in the States - here the price stated on the price label tends (not always, but usually) to be the price you pay at the till. If it is an exception (e.g. excluding VAT) then that is usually stated, and quite often the price including VAT is also on the sticker, albeit in much smaller print.

It takes a while for me to get used to remembering that sales tax needs to be added to the sticker price when in the States (and all states seem to have different rates - extra complication!). You must all have seriously impressive maths skills!! Even at my best my mental process is: "So that's $10.50... and a bit..."

Hi. Here in Portugal we don't have many quilt shops. I think that's why quilt fabric is expensive.
A solid costs 2,5€-3,5€, printed 4€-6€ But only a few shops have them.
the fabric meter is between 13€ (the 'old' ones) to 19€.
Pre cuts are rare here and I can only dream with the ones I see in the online shops from other countries because adding shipping costs increases very very very much the final price.
If you buy vulgar cotton fabric it costs around 10€/ meter.

Quilt shop where I work in Murray, KY

FQ = $1.85; 70% 0f quilters cottons (quilt shop quality) are $5.00 with Moda/Benartex, etc. $8.99-$9.99.

Owner works very hard to keep prices down.

I see fat quarters running about same as Cybrarian. Therefore I try to purchase the better quality yardage often with a coupon. When I purchase yardage, I always buy minimum of 1 1/2 yards to allow for shrinkage and mishaps.

$3.50 at quilt shop in Atlanta. Less at the local Hancock Fabric, but quality is not so good. Have quit buying fat quarters for the most part.

Here in New Zealand fat quarters range from $6. to $8. NZ The most up to date fabric often retails at $30 to $37 a metre (close to 40 inches). My LOQ sells at around $24 to $30
