I do it too and if the quilt police show up at your house, just let me know and I'll lasso them with my bobbin thread!

Oh dear, I mistakenly used quilting thread on the top, and I ruined my machine beyond repair. I had to get rid of it, because it would no longer pick up the bobbin thread. It made a loud noise, as soon as I started stitching with it. I actually felt like crying.

I use those almost empty bobbins for my binding, when I tack it down on the back side. That little bit on the bobbin seems to go a long way, when I use it instead of a spool of thread for my binding thread. Of course, I do chose a matching thread, not just any color.

I also buy bags of thread at resale shops and use them up for piecing.

I love to use a satin stitch in applique and often use different threads in the bobbin that shows on the backside that no one sees. Uses up those half -used bobbins pretty quick and doesn't allow my thread to get "old".
I also use different colors for piecing tops, so that helps use it up as well.

Odd colors shouldn't show up...every block is different so have lots of colors in the squares. Am I just lazy or cheap? Will the quilt police come & hunt me down?

I do this alot as I'm a scrappy quilt lover! So color doesn't matter too much.

I do that too!!! I can't stand to throw anything away so I use the bobbin thread and ends of spools to piece Crazy Quilt blocks and scrappy quilts.
