For all the ladies who mentioned having their right shoe off, and those who didn't, if you are right handed try sewing with your left foot (right foot if you're a left hander). I was told this in a class years ago. There was also a chiro/physio (not sure which) on Simply Quilts who recommended it. It felt strange at first but after all these years it's natural and my back doesn't suffer as much. Summer and Winter wear flip-flops in house, so barefoot at the machine. |
I kick off my shoe or slipper to sew, always have, even in high school Home Ec classes. I nelieve I feel the pedal better and have more control. Maybe not but I've convinced myself of this over the years. Sewing with anything on that foot just "feels" wrong.

Yep. I kick off my shoes as soon as I get home and I always sew with just my socks on. I will take my shoes off at classes or retreats when I sew too. The pedal or speed or whatever just doesn't feel right with shoes on.

I am a sock-foot sewer. Same as many of you, if I'm in the house I'm in socks or barefoot, but for some reason when it comes to using the sewing machine I prefer to have socks on.
I do, however, always wear shoes when driving. :) |
I am shoeless everychance I get! I cannot sew with shoes on...gota feel conected to the foot pedal! Home, retreats or guilds...no shoes for me just a pair of WILD socks!

Barefoot-except now when its cold, then with a pair of fleece socks on. At retreats I always use a pair of fleece socks too. I just cannot feel the foot control as well when I have shoes on. Get a lot of guff from others, but there is one other that always sews barefoot.
I'm barefoot in the house too--all year, my DH says he always knows if I am gone as the shoes by the front or back door are gone. He teases me that you can take the girl off the farm, but can't take the farm out of the girl. grin. |

my shoes come off at the front door, would not track outdoors into apartment. Use left foot to run sewing machine and both hands interchangably to sew (people ask me if i am right handed or left handed):) Cannot imagine putting the bottom of a shoe on any part of my sewing machine. |
I like to sew barefoot. I know danger of pins etc but I is just more comfortable and I have more control than with the shoe on. I do wear house shoes and slide off when starting to sew at retreats.

My feet love to be free, so I'm usually barefoot unless it is really cold. My sewing room is upstairs so even if it is cold, I can go barefoot up there.
