following through that idea, i read once that if you hold fabric tight over a gold or silver finger ring and you can see the glitter through the weave, then it's too thin.

I've bought from them a couple times. LOVE NixieChicks!!! My only complaint is that I had something in my cart and continued to shop. By the time I went to the checkout, it was gone! When they have a sale, you have got to be quick.

I've also bought from www.bearpawquilting.com I ordered on Thursday afternoon and had it in my hands on Monday.

One precaution you might want to consider about ordering anything on line. is the URL. When it is only http it is not a secure site and any information you send over the internet could be vulnerable to thieves. Look for sites whose URL begins with https which means it is secure and encrypted. It is better to be safe than sorry later.

And about the secure ordering, most sites do not switch to the https until you are actually processing your order, so do not skip a site that you are just browsing because it does not seem secure to you.

Just a quick note on this subject.

The https is only necessary when you are entering private information. The site needs to have a secure shopping cart system. So, when you go to checkout, the url should change from http to https. If you are only browsing the website and looking at and/or adding to your cart, it is okay if it is only http

I've always had very good luck with fabric.com. In addition to many fabrics under $5.00, they always have a sale going on. You only have to spend $35.00 for free shipping. I've recently ordered from Fabricdepot.com and liked what I got. They had a special on batik fat quarters: 4 for $5.00. They chose the fabrics, but they did a good job with coordinating the colors. They ran a similar deal with regular fabric fat quarters 4 for $4.00.

Just FYI, the fabric might not look exactly, like the sample on your computer screen. If that is okay, you can find some great deals!

I look at the fabrics at the quilt shop and then go price them on line. I used to be able to get some good deals on Ebay but not so much anymore. I like FabricDepot.com. They have some great sales. Sign up on the website. I also like TheThriftyNeedle.com. She has a lot of Moda fabrics which I prefer.

Thanks everyone for the great info. I just made my first online purchase couple days ago and waiting for my fabrics to arrive. Will report when I get them. I am new to the wonderful fabric world, so I still need to build a stash :lol: ,so I am just kind of looking at colors and prints I like, and there are a lot, I could really spend a lot of money doing this, but I probabely should take it one step at a time. So right now, I have decided to only shop for fabric once a month, and spend less than 75$ until I build a good collection. Any tips on building a stash? Are you coordinatng colors as you are shopping for them so you know they go togthere? Or do you just find things you like regardless?
