How interesting

mtngrl 12-12-2010 06:17 AM

I am jealous of your butterfly fabric. It is really pretty. I tried to find enough colors in my stash but it is getting a bit low. I think I may have to shop  so sad :D
Thank you for posting your choices, that really helps me, I always stress over color choices.

KarenR 12-12-2010 06:39 AM

Missy,
When I booked marked that site it took me to a yahoo sign in page. Is that correct?

Hi other Candi  , it is my first mystery quilt, but from what I understand, it is a mystery, not much details are given upfront. Mysi (our awesome hostess) posted the fabric requirements for various sizes, you can download the PDF file from here http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-82205-1.htm and decide what size quilt you want to make, and choose your fabrics. If you go back to page 8 of this thread, you can find a photo of Mysi's fabric selection, as well as hints on picking fabrics. That is pretty much all anyone buy Mysi knows thus far. Sometime in late December, she will start posting clues once a week, which will be basically directions on how to cut/sew/arrange blocks to make the quilt. She will post clues weekly until we are finished. By the time the quilt is done, mystery will be solved!

I believe she will use this thread here to post clues http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-82205-1.htm

I hope this helps, I am excited about starting this one :P

question? I am using white for the inner border and I'm thinking I would like white for the outer border, would this work or should I choose a different color for the outer border

Short and Sweet, I just want to tell you that I LOVE your focus fabric from the other thread (didn't want to post it there as directed by Mysi :-D ) and I think you definitely need an orange red or red orange to make it pop.

Your outer border will come out of color 1 If you read up a bit, I made a correction. The correction was make the slot that had outer border on it color 4 instead. I think the white would look good as an outer border. I just love you picks!!

candi 12-12-2010 03:26 PM

Mysi, a question, would a directional print be a problem for the focus fabric?

No directional prints will not be a problem. :) Thanks for asking! I didn't even think about that! Good question!

Awesome! Because I sort of think I am going to be using a "scene" print that would be perfect cut into 12.5'',well perfect in my eyes, LOL. I had to order some more fabric for my background and one accent, as I am planning on making my first full size quilt with this and didn't have enough  As soon as I get all my fabrics together, I shall post a photo.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this for us, Missy.

I think the Xmas-like fabric, it has a lot of colors you can pull from. The pumpkins are cute too.. you can do different values or contrasting values if you want with that.. Either one, but I think I like the Xmas-like one better. Hope this helps

I think the cardinals or pumpkins would be great..the purple one although lovely is too small of a print to be cut into 12.5''..in mu opinion.

Hi! I wanted a new wallhanging for my kitchen. I love roosters so you can imagine what I wanted for my focus fabric. I had been given several yds of a panel fabric that had roosters printed on the panels, for each panel section there were two roosters. The roosters are each slightly different but use the same colors in each. In the picture is just one of the roosters. I still need to find two "barn red" fabrics but the rest came from my stash. The colors in my kitchen are a med sage green, barn red and white so these are perfect colors to with the kitchen colors.
I will be cutting each rooster block down some, the outside edge of the blue border is 12-1/2" so I can trim down to whatever size the they need to be. Take care, Chris

Here's my focus fabric. My plan is to fussycut 12" vignettes of my favorite fishies.

Since my stash is quite limited, I get to go shopping for most of the other fabrics.

Here are the other two that I will work in, then solids and tonals for everything else.

Chris, I love your focus fabric.
Sue, your fabric makes me want to go snorkeling, love it.

Here is a photo of what I am going to use for my focus print, it is rather a busy scene, I will fussy cut certain scenes. I am planning on using red as my main, then some greens, purples, golden yellow and browns for the rest. Many of them are batiks, yes, I am planning a wild quilt, lol. When I saw this fabric, I just had to have it and bought what was left on the blot, and been thinking and thinking about what to do with it, then Missy said "Mystery with 12.5'' blocks" and I thought I just have to use this baby.

As I gather the rest of my fabrics(have to get more yardage for some as I am planning on making the full size), I will post another photo of the whole set.

Missy, as per the other comment, I'll gladly be your helper if you let me into your secret   :XD:
Nah, I want to solve the mystery ;)
