I think I have the same ailment. I've been working in my scraps this week. It's a stress reliever for me. I've also been starching and ironing scraps, then cutting them into different sizes for future use. I think when you cut into them, they grow new pieces!

My scrap pile is about 4 ft. high. HELP!
|
I've been doing it for 2 years and 4 months. YES SERIOUSLY!

Scrappy is FUN. Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville.com has a lot of free patterns for using scraps, and look for the section on "Leaders and Enders." Bonnie describes a clever way to use your scraps between doing regular quilt projects. There is also a section on preparing scraps for future projects, too.

That could be me writing the same story. I have the same bug but I have been making Bonnie Hunter's "Scrappy bargello" and have made three so far and started a fourth. It's very easy and you might want to check out her website which is www.quiltville.com.

I feel pain and excitement of scraps. My new found respect and love for them. I was overwhelmed with all the scraps laying around and it appeared that they even were breeding in the night while I slept. So I started sewing away and even using up alot of 1/2 spools of thread. I did several scrap tops and even bought a plastic stacking drawers so I could start cutting them scraps as soon as I had them and organized them in the drawers. Not completely done will the scraps but I think they have quit multiplying. here are a couple of scrappy tops I have made.

that's WONDERFUL! and when the scraps are finally down to a small amount ....
Enjoy the creativity, each block is wonderfully unique and it's fun to watch the block develop. You'll have a wonderful collection to draw from when you get back into planned quilts. I made huge rolls of scrappy piano keys with my 3" and 4" pieces. I can pull them out and border a quilt that's not quite big enough and it looks great. So have fun. |
Wow! Gsbufalo, I love those. When I want to work with my scraps, I open the dining table (in the living room) as big as it will go, spread all my scraps over the entire table, and grab whatever trips my trigger. If the living room looks like a mess, well, that's the way it is. I am happy to live like that for a few weeks and so is my hubby. Then a party comes up and it all gets picked up.

I love sewing scraps. It's like free fabric, and you get the satisfaction of cleaning up a mess. No pressure on what you're doing cause it's just scraps. Keep going till you're scrapless and you will be happy and ready to start a new project!
